Pistorius Testifies on Previous Shooting Incident

Oscar Pistorius, the South African Olympian currently facing murder charges over the 2013 murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Tuesday testified about a previous shooting incident he was involved in.

One of the charges against him includes the unlawful discharge of a firearm in Tasha’s Restaurant.

At the hearing attended by Reeva Steenkamp’s parents, Pistorius said his intention was to make the firearm safe, and as the round came out of the chamber the shot went off.

He told the court that he was considering buying the same firearm that his friend, Darren Fresco, owned and he asked Fresco if he could show it to him at the restaurant.

Pistorius also said he became very angry at Fresco when the shot went off especially because he handed him a loaded firearm that was unsafe. He said he passed the gun back to Fresco after.

He also told the court that Jason Loupis, the owner of the restaurant came over to speak with them.

In his testimony, Pistorius said he asked Fresco if he understood the severity of the situation and what it could mean if the media found out what happened. He went further that Fresco took the blame for the incident and said the gun hooked on his pants.

The athlete also told the court that Loupis’s wife, Maria came over and joked with Fresco. From what Pistorius told the court, she believed Fresco’s story that the gun went off after it hooked on his pants.

He said he apologized to Loupis and even offered to pay for the damages, which he said was done with his credit card.
