Buhari Presidency: PDP Not Fit To Lead Opposition- Kayode Ajulo

National Secretary of the Labour Party, Olukayode Ajulo has asserted the impotency of People’s Democratic Party PDP to lead opposition against the ruling All Progressive Congress APC due to incessant crises that have depleted the party sequel to it’s loss at the last general elections.

Ajulo however said Labour Party was well equipped to lead opposition with a view to deepening democracy in Nigeria. Speaking with the Street Journal via telephone from Abuja, Ajulo noted that all the years that PDP was in power at the centre, there were always crises. He added that the defeat of the party in the presidential election had led to a mass defection of prominent members of the party to the ruling party.

‘’But today when we are talking about opposition, we are not thinking about PDP. LP will fit into the role of effective and constructive opposition to APC’’, he said, adding that the PDP lacked the capacity to lead opposition. ‘’It’s a case of the healer heal thyself’’, he quipped.

According the LP Scribe, PDP right from the onset have been having leadership crisis, stressing that it had six chairmen in five years.

‘’That’s why we are never looking at them for any effective opposition’’. He pointed out that PDP had never found itself in opposition in the past 16 years it was in government, stressing that the crisis in the party is not helping matters.

‘’Most of them having spoilt themselves with the spoils of office, if they go into opposition the government might open their can of worms. They are used to their comfort zone. And many of them are likely going to join the ruling party’’. He added.

Ajulo stated that PDP cannot pretend to be on the side of the people now that their fortunes have been depleted while APC cannot pretend to be on the side of the people either when it is a repackaged PDP’’. What does PDP have to offer? He asked rhetorically.

H however, said Labour Party was well prepared to lead opposition to ensure that President Buhari fulfill all his promises made to Nigerians during his campaign tour of the length and breadth of the country.

He pointed out that it was uncharitable for PDP to be calling for merger with other parties in order to form a formidable opposition, saying, ‘’If PDP is looking for who to associate with now, we wish them good luck’. He identified social democracy, justice as part of the ideology of Labour Party, insisting that ‘’anybody who does not share this ideology with us we can never merge with such party’’.

He averred that when PDP was in government, Labour Party did not merger with them, asking rhetorically; ‘’is it now that they are out of power that we will merger with them?’’. ‘’Our ideology is clear; social justice, workers’ welfarism. We will never change our colour, our ideology’’.

The Labour Party scribe however, disclosed that his party would soon publish all the campaign promises made by President Muhammadu Buhri to Nigerians and ensure that all were fulfilled by the APC-led government.
