Bomb Attack In Sokoto A Hoax, Says State Police Command

The Sokoto State Police Command on Saturday said that the rumour of a botched bomb attack on a major hotel in the state capital, Sokoto, on Saturday afternoon, was a hoax.

It would be recalled that the police anti-bomb squad was alerted in the afternoon of a suspicious box near the hotel, which was allegedly brought to the area by four boys, who attempted to open it.

Confirming the incident, Mr El-Mustapha Sani, spokesman of the command, said the box only contained some empty packs likely to have been stolen from the nearby Sokoto central market by the boys.

He said: “Actually, our men opened the box which was locked with a padlock and it is now in our custody, and it is not a bomb.

“No arrest was made as the boys fled the scene, with one of them shouting bomb, apparently to divert the attention of the people, and evaded arrest.”

Sani commended the security guards attached to the hotel were said to have promptly alerted a police patrol team stationed at the Dandima round-about of the incident.

The police spokesman advised people to always report any suspicious items or persons at places of worship, markets, residences and other public places to security agencies to enable them to nip any unforeseen circumstances in the bud.
