Breaking News: 4 Confirmed Dead, 2 Missing As Helicopter Crashes in Lagos

A helicopter belonging to Bristow Airline has crashed in Lagos, killing four persons with two missing, while six others were rescued, police, aviation and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officials have confirmed.

The commercial helicopter carrying 12 passengers is said to have plunged into the Lagos Lagoon on Wednesday afternoon, behind Oworosoki Police station, shortly after take-off.

Lagos State Police Command’s spokeswoman, DSP Patricia Amadin, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the helicopter was carrying 12 passengers, four of whom were confirmed dead, six persons were rescued, while the police and other rescue teams were still searching for two other persons in the waters.

Also, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA Public Relations Officer, South-West, confirmed the incident, saying that the chopper with Registration Number 5N-BDG plunged into the Lagoon about 3pm on Wednesday.

“We don’t know exactly what happened but we have called the Nigerian Mission Control Centre (NIMCC) to confirm the distress signal,’’ he said.

The Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, also confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Tunji Okekunbi, saying it had commenced investigation into the crash.
