Kogi, Bayelsa Governorship Elections: INEC Approves 50 Observer Groups


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved 50 election observer groups to participate in the November 21 and December 5, respectively, Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections.

Mr Bala Shittu, INEC’s Director of Elections and Party Monitoring Department, disclosed this in the commission’s daily bulletin issued in Abuja on Monday.

Shittu gave the breakdown of the total number of election observer groups approved for the two slated elections, as comprising 43 local and seven foreign and directed them to obtain, complete and return Form EPMC 002 for the elections from INEC Headquarters’ Elections and Party Monitoring Department, which would be opened from October 2 to 23 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

According to the bulletin, the photographs of members of staff to be deployed by approved groups in the two states along with their names should be submitted in hard and soft copies to the said department latest October 23, and late submission will not be entertained.

It said the dates for distribution of observer kits in the two states would be communicated in due course, while further enquiries should be directed to the commission’s Director of Elections and Party Monitoring Department.
