Militants Strike in Adamawa, Kills 18 Mourners – Police


The Adamawa Police Command has confirmed that the terrorist group, Boko Haram, has launched a daring raid on Kuda-Kaya community in Madagali Local Government of Adamawa State, on Thursday night, killing 18 mourners, while injuring 10 others.

The Police said the attack took place at night and at a funeral service.

“They stormed our village on motorbikes and immediately opened fire on the people observing the wake keep,” a witness said.

Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, Othman Abubakar, said 18 people had so far been confirmed dead.

“As at the last count, 18 people were killed while about 10 others were injured and were rushed to a haealth facility in Gulak”, he said.

Adam Kamale, the member representing Michika/Madagali Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said many were feared to have been killed during the raid.

“‘There was pandemonium during which many people scampered for their lives,” he said.

Meanwhile, DSP Abubakar said a wanted Boko Haram commander in Gombi Local Government of the state had been arrested.

The suspected commander was said to have been trailed after he was sighted at a security checkpoint.

He said the suspect was one of the terrorists on the wanted list of hardened terrorist released by military authorities.

The suspect was arrested at a bank after curiously asking another customer to help him make withdrawal from an ATM in what police believed was an attempt to avoid bank security cameras.

Abubakar said the suspect was being interrogated at the command’s CID.
