The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has vowed to bring to justice perpetrators of violence and killers of security operatives in the re-run parliamentary elections in Rivers State held on December, 10.

Wike’, the protesters staged a peaceful protest against the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, demanding justice for the alleged killing of voters and security operatives during the legislative re-run election in the state on December 10.
The group accused Wike of masterminding the killings and also politicizing the safety and peaceful coexistence of the Rivers’ people.

As the civil society group made up of mainly youths and physically challenged persons protested the electoral violence in the state, and the group also wondered if those who carried out the killings participated in the election or were hired mainly to cause confusion.
Abdulwahab Ekekhide, Coordinator, National Support Groups for Good Governance, who spoke on he half of the group, said the Police must investigate the beheading of DSP Alkali Mohammed and other killings that took place during the re-run election and bring the perpetrators to book.
He said: “It is with great sense of patriotism to our fatherland, Nigeria that we write to draw your attention to the spate of electoral violence in Nigeria with particular reference to the recent legislative re-run elections in Rivers State.
The beheading of DSP Alkali Mohammed, alongside his aide during an ambush at Omokore, Onelga Local Government Area, the shooting of Mr. Meebari John Meebari, the killing of innocent electorate and the abduction and manhandling of INEC officials during the election is one too many and highly condemnable”
Ekekhide urged the Police to convoke an investigation and bring those found guilty to book.
“This is call to action, let’s save our democracy from the hands of political vampires, who take delight in shedding innocent blood to achieve political ambition.
“Good Governance is what we demand from all elected representatives of the good people of this great countrg”.
